Funeral Services for Mrs. Betty Ruth Nelson, 82, of Sherman, Texas will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2018, at 10:00 a. m. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Tishomingo with Rev. Keith Jacobs officiating, assisted by Dr. Rex Clayton. Interment will follow in the Tishomingo Cemetery. Mrs. Nelson passed away on August 4, 2018, at the Brookdale Willows Assisted Living Center in Sherman. At her request, the casket will remain closed. Betty was born on June 11, 1936, in Calumet, Oklahoma to James R. Thrash and Martha E. (McKinzie) Thrash. She was a high school graduate and married Robert “Bob” Nelson on June 2, 1954, in Macomb, Oklahoma. Afterward, attended and graduated from college with a Master’s in Education. She taught the 4th grade at the Tishomingo Elementary School for 25 years before retiring. Betty was also one of the early members of the Calvary Baptist Church, having moved to Tishomingo in 1965 from Wilson, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert in 1997 and two brothers, Robert and Paul Thrash. Betty is survived by: two sons, Robert Nelson and wife Dawna of Edmond, Oklahoma and Jon Nelson and wife Carrie of Burneyville, Oklahoma; two daughters, Rhonda Precord and husband Todd of Denison, Texas and Teresa Nelson of Lucas, Texas; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Pallbearers for the service will be: Aaron Milligan, Sam Barrick, Jason Byrd, Mike Hamilton, Craig Conner, and Derek Collins.
