Longtime Shawnee resident Irene Doss passed away on February 4, 2022 in Plano, Texas. Irene was born on August 18, 1931 in Calumet, Oklahoma.
Daughter of Franklin A. and Viola (Johnson) Griffin. Two brothers, Melvin and Eugene Griffin. Irene played the piano for Anderson Church for 5 years from 8th grade through high school She attended Macomb, Oklahoma schools where she lettered in high school basketball and graduated in 1950.
She married William “Bill” C. Doss, Jr. on July 14, 1955. Bill preceded her in death on August 5, 1995. One of her first jobs was modeling for Jenique Fashions. She was a Nurse’s Aid for 12 years at the Shawnee Care Center Nursing Home. She worked for the Pottawatomie County Commissioners for 3 years and then at the Pottawatomie County Clerk’s office for 13 years where she retired.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Franklin A. and Voila Griffin, her two brothers, Eugene and Melvin Griffin and her husband William Criss “Bill” Doss Jr.
She is survived by her three sons, William Criss III and wife Cheryl, Mark and wife Jo Lea and Robin and wife Lisa. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Leona will be held Friday, February 11, 2022 from 10:00 AM at Resthaven Funeral Home, 44909 Highway 3, Shawnee, OK 74801.
